If you email us
Writing to hello@riveln.com is the only way this site learns anything about you. When you do, here is the whole picture.
- What we receive: your email address and whatever you choose to write to us.
- Why we have it: to read your message and reply to you.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in handling correspondence you started.
- How long we keep it: as long as the conversation matters. When it no longer does, we delete it.
No analytics, no tracking
This site runs no analytics. There are no ad pixels, no fingerprinting scripts, and no outside trackers watching you read.
Two small pieces of first party state exist, and only these. If you subscribe and confirm, we set one cookie named rvln_sub: a single yes or no value that remembers you are a subscriber so the journal reads without prompting you again. It carries no identifier and expires after twelve months. Separately, the journal keeps a count in your own browser of how many pieces you have opened this month, so the subscribe prompt knows when to appear. That count lives only on your device, holds no identifier, and never reaches us.
Neither is a tracking cookie, so there is still no banner. The newsletter, below, is the one thing you actively opt into.
The newsletter
The Forerunner is our weekly email. Subscribing is the one time this site asks for your data on purpose, and it is always your move.
- What we collect: your email address. Nothing else, and nothing ticked for you in advance.
- Why we have it: to send you the weekly read and to confirm the address is really yours.
- Legal basis: your consent. We use double opt in, so after you enter your address we email you a link, and you join the list only once you click it. We keep a record of that confirmation as proof the consent was freely given.
- Who processes it: Resend, our email provider, stores the list and delivers the mail for us. It is shared with no one else.
- Leaving: every issue carries a one click unsubscribe, and you can also write to us. Either way we drop you from the list.
- How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe.
Your rights under the GDPR
If we hold personal data about you, which in practice means you emailed us or subscribed to The Forerunner, you can:
- Ask what we hold and get a copy of it (access).
- Have it corrected (rectification) or deleted (erasure).
- Limit what we do with it (restriction) or object to our handling of it altogether (objection).
- Receive it in a format you can take elsewhere (portability).
To exercise any of these, email hello@riveln.com and we will sort it out. You can also complain to an EU supervisory authority. In Cyprus that is the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection.
